About Children's Book Press (CBP)

Children's Book Press was the first independent press in the country to focus on publishing first voice literature for children by and about people from the Latino, African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, and Native American communities. Since 1975, Children's Book Press has promoted lived and shared experiences of cultures who have been historically under-represented or misrepresented in children's literature while also focusing on promoting inter-cultural and cross-cultural awareness for children of all backgrounds. Read the full history of CBP.

In 2012, Children's Book Press became an imprint of LEE & LOW BOOKS. Children's Book Press will continue to not only affirm and validate a child's identity, culture, and home language, but also help build a solid foundation to achieve literacy in any language. Children's Book Press's important mission to promote bilingualism, literacy, and education lives on.

"Over the course of many years directing Children's Book Press, I was very happy to witness the flowering of Lee & Low as a major independent publisher of multicultural books for all our children. Quite simply, Lee & Low does innovative, courageous work. My heart rests easy in the knowledge that the legacy of Children's Book Press will live on with Lee & Low."

— Harriet Rohmer
