Chess Rumble
Review
By Miami Family Magazine
In a world powered by violence, it should not be surprising when a fist is the first image, accompanying the language of battles on the opening page of this middle school verse novel. Still, its prominence startles the reader with its immediacy. Award-winning filmmaker and debut author G. Neri and illustrator Jesse Joshua Watson combine their formidable talents, taking readers along with “branded” troublemaker Marcus. . . . Black, white and grey acrylic paintings evoke the inner city landscape and give shape to Marcus’ despondency.
