The Can Man
Review
By Betty Liverman, Teacher Librarian at Tucson Unified School District
The oil on canvas illustrations, consuming whole pages, are modeled by human beings. Mr. Orback the illustrator, has used the author’s Korean background in the illustrations which allows this title to become somewhat multicultural. The sharp text is very comfortable for early readers and fits opposite the pictures. A neighborhood man loses his job and is forced to collect cans to survive. Tim a young boy decides collecting cans would be a good way to buy his own skateboard. Unfortunately it creates competition for the CAN man. Will Tim’s conscience change his goal? Buy the book!
