In her endearing children’s tale, Shanghai Messenger, Cincinnati author Andrea Cheng follows 11-year-old Xiao Mei as she travels from America to meet her family in Shanghai, China. Xiao Mei worries that her relatives won’t accept a girl from America who is only half Chinese, but soon finds herself in the welcoming arms of assorted aunts, uncles and cousins, and eager to embrace her heritage.
