Atlanta, GA – September 8, 2025 – Worldreader, the nonprofit tech organization helping families build a culture of reading, today announced the launch of a week-long celebration in honor of International Literacy Day (September 8).

Throughout the week, Worldreader will spotlight family stories, convene global partners, and encourage caregivers everywhere to turn 10 minutes of daily scroll time into reading time through its free BookSmart app, available in five languages.

A centerpiece of the campaign is a partnership with Lee & Low Books, the largest independent multicultural children’s book publisher in the U.S., which will donate 50% of proceeds from every sale on leeandlow.com during the week to Worldreader.

“Lee & Low Books is excited to partner with Worldreader for International Literacy Week. Every year they help children learn to read and love to read. I am especially impressed with their deep commitment to help families build sustainable reading routines. Worldreader's work year around demonstrates that centering families in a child's academic journey unlocks knowledge and opportunity for children, caregivers, and the community.” — Jason Low, publisher and co-owner of Lee & Low Books

“Partnerships are essential to achieving our mission,” said Rebecca Chandler Leege, CEO of Worldreader. “By working together with organizations that share our commitment to families, we can scale access to books and resources, ensuring children everywhere have the opportunity to develop a lifelong love of reading.”

A signature moment of the week is Worldreader in Action: Partners Building a World of Readers,” a live virtual program on Wednesday, September 10, at 12:30 PM ET, featuring Worldreader CEO Rebecca Chandler Leege, family stories from Kenya, and partners including Lee & Low Books and Edovo, whose collaboration reconnects incarcerated parents with their children through reading. “Families everywhere are facing disruption, which is why our free, accessible, low-data platform is more critical than ever,” said Chandler Leege.

“For incarcerated parents, reading with their children—even from a distance—rebuilds bonds, restores dignity, and creates a pathway to hope.” — Anna DeLuna, CEO of Edovo
