DeShawn Days

Review
By Book Links

In first-person verses a creative, caring African American 10-year-old named DeShawn tells readers about living in the ‘hood with his extended family. Through these poems readers get to know a young boy who mourns for his beloved grandmother, enjoys rap music, and makes snowballs while also dealing with life in the projects. Christie’s expressionistic acrylic paintings are an effective accompaniment.
