Love Twelve Miles Long

Review
By Parent Wise Austin

”…Although the conversation is imagined, there is a lot of historical accuracy in premise and in the illustrations. Paired with each page of text are detailed paintings that evoke the mood of the dark moonlit journey. These paintings are especially poignant, as Douglass states in his autobiography that he doesn’t recall ever seeing his mother, who died when he was seven, in daylight. This is a perfect picture book to share during Black History Month, or for Mother’s Day, or any day when young readers could use a story of hope and maternal love.
