Make a Book
Homeschool Activity for
Giving Thanks: A Native American Good Morning Message
by Chief Jake Swamp, illustrated by Erwin Printup, Jr.
Activity by Anastasia Suen
Make your own "Giving Thanks" book to share with your extended family this Thanksgiving holiday. Use Giving Thanks as a model as you write your own book. You may give thanks for everything you see from morning until night. Or you might make a "Family Thanksgiving" book in which each page is devoted to a different family member. Record something special about each person on his or her page.
Bookmaking is an ancient art. Explore the history of different kinds of books around the world and then make your own books from repurposed (recycled) materials.
You could also make a pop-up book, a fan book, or one of many other types of books.
Older children might be interested in making a hardcover book.
Share pictures of your Thanksgiving book. Take a digital photo and post it in our Photobucket album.
