Illustrated by Randy DuBurke. Marcenia Lyle’s parents expect she’ll grow up to be a teacher, nurse, or maid. She dreams instead of a professional baseball career. This account of the talent and determination fueling her eventual success in rthe Negro Leagues (as Toni Stone) is vigorously told. Even better are DuBurke’s paintings depicting Marcenia lunging for a ball and tearing around the bases.
