Grandfather Counts

Review
By Teaching Children Mathematics

(Teaching Children Mathematics Magazine) This colorful picture book deals with communication problems between a man and his grandchild… Children in the primary grades will enjoy hearing the story and will be pleased to see how the granddaughter and grandfather are able to share their interests and language with each other. The counting and language woven into the story might spark a student’s interest in learning how to count in Chinese. A pronounciation guide is offered at the beginning of the book to assist non-Chinese speakers. Many children from families that speak languages other than English attend our schools. Having books such as this available in classrooms will help students understand the challenges of learning a second language… I recommend this book for social and classroom libraries.
