The Can Man

Review
By Dr. Gay Ward, University of Wisconsin

The Can Man presents a slice of diverse American life - it crosses cultures and socioeconomic groups. It would be a great start to having students examine their own prejudices. For younger students, it would be a wonderful demonstration of enduring values and ordinary heroes. Dialogue contributes to the effectiveness of this book as an example of realistic fiction along with multiculturalism. The carefully crafted realistic illustrations lend to the harmony of the book as a whole. The Can Man would also lend itself to reader’s theater for middle or upper elementary classes.
