Stunning, swirling illustrations portray a young African American girl, her grandmother, and a picture of her mother in soldier's uniform, who is gone in the army, all surrounded by fantastic cutout figures of shopping items, clerks, stores, jewelry boxes, and various embellished collages of great intricacy and style.
